Alan Gurley, development engineer for the National Bus Company, has joined the Confederation of British Road Passenger Transport as technical and operations director. Before his period with NBC, Mr Gurley has worked for a variety of psv companies including Yorkshire Traction and municipal undertakings in Manchester, Bradford and Aberdeen.
Another National Bus subsidiary, Alder Valley, has a new general manager. He is Douglas Adie formerly secretary of Midland Red. Mr Adie succeeds Bernard Rootham as general manager at Alder Valley, Mr Rootham having moved to fill the same post at Eastern Counties.
Angelo Salmasi is the new director of truck operations for Avis in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Before filling this newly created post, Mr Salmasi was the UK director and general manager of Avis Truck Rental, with whom he has been for seven years.
Succeeding him as the UK general manager is Bill Johnston who was previously operations manager. He has been with Avis for six years.
Tanker and gully emptier manufacturer Whale Tankers has appointed two new marketing staff. Tony Baldwin, who is new to the industry, becomes export manager, while Michael Nye is Whale's southern area sales manager for municipal tankers.
Deputy road transport manager with the National Coal Board's Western Area, Jack Sexton, has just retired after 26 years in the coal industry.
