Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The 25-cwt. Model Improved, and a New Two-tonner Now Available.

The Consolidated Pneumatic Tool Co., Ltd., is an old-established company ; it deals, as its 'name implies, with pneumatic and electric tools, besides commercial vehicles. Many of our readers are acquainted from actual experience with the 25-cwt. C.P.T. van, and no doubt others also know it by hearsay. It is a handy little vehicle, distinctive from the fact that it is of what is termed the " overtype" construction, the engine being placed under the driver's seat, thus affording rather more than thei usual amount of body space for the given wheelbase. Alternatively its manoeuvring capabilities may be made greater than a chassis of the same capacity on normal lines. It has now been on the British market for a considerable time.

Specification of Small Chassis.

Its outline specification, which includes one or two modifications to the original one, embodies a 20 hp. engine, with thermo-syphon cooling, a tubular radiator, steelplate totally-enclosed clutch running in oil, three-speed-and-reverse gearbox, with final drive by means of a pair of roller chains. The present price of this very useful little chassis, including tires, is 2350. Larger Model on Stereotyped Lines.

Such has been the success of this machine that the Consolidated Pneumatic Tool Co., Ltd., has recently been. impelled to offer to the public a second model, of somewhat larger capacity and slightly different in design. This machine, which we illustrate on this page, is on rather more stereotyped lines as regards its general construction than the older „one. The engine, which is a Contiii-ental 7 h.p., fourcylinder, 4 in. bore by 51 in. stroke, with cylinders cast en bloc, is placed, in accordance with the more usual construction, under a bonnet. The unit construction has been adopted for the engine and gearbox, the latter providing three speeds forward and a reverse. It is suspended in the frame at three points. Final drive is by Timken-David-Brown wormand-wheel live axle, full-floating, with a reduction of 71 to 1. Both brakes take effect on drums on the rear wheels ; both are compensated, and provided with suitable means of adjustment.

The control follows very closely what is now regarded as standard practice on American assembled machines ; the band brake and foot speed levers are centrally disposed„ and the steering wheel to the right.. The engine speed is regulated by means of hand and foot interconnected throttle levers, with an additional lever on 'the steering column for varying the ignition timing An engine governor is fitted which may be arranged to cut in at any pre-determined speed, and which is Ordinarily set to take effect when the engine revolutions correspond to a road speed of 15 miles an hour on direct

or top gear.

Price.

The price of this chassis complete with tires, which are 36 in. by 4 in. single on the front and 26 in. by 31 in. twin on the rear, is £525.
