Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The value of the Morris motor fire-engine owned by the Belfast Fire Brigade was shown by the speed with which it was able to reach a fire on the Malone Road, recently, just in time to save several horses.

Within three months there will have been added to the fire-fighting plant of the Aberdeen Fire Brigade a petrol-driven motor fire-engine with turbine pump. Various tenders were submitted, and that of Halley's Industrial Motors, Ltd., of Yoker (21,025), was accepted.

L.C.C. Orders.

The Fire Brigade Committee of the London County Council have had under consideration the question of obtaining the remainder of the motor fire appliances in respect of which provision had been made in the estimates of thecurrent financial year. The committee are of opinion that steps should at once be taken to secure early delivery of the appliances. The appliances included in the estimates consist of 10 petrol-motor fire-engines (four of which will take the place of steam motor engines, while the other six will displace four horsed engines), nine motor escape-vans (to take the place of six horsed vans), one turntable long ladder (which it is proposed shall be motor-propelled and will take the place of a horsed long-ladder van), and one motor lorry. Of these appliances some are already on order, and those still to be obtained are five motor engines, three motor escape-vans and one motor turntable long lad der ; when these appliances have been obtained, three horsed engines, two horsed escape-vans and one horsed long-ladder van will be disposed of. The committee propose that, the motor engines shall be petrol driven and generally of a similar type to those recently ordered. The six motor escapevans already ordered will be electrically driven, but they think that the remaining three still to be purchased this year should. be petrol driven owing to the particular purposes for which they will be required. Satisfactory reports had been received as to the working in other cities of an electrically-propelled motor turntable long ladder, which has recently been placed on the market, and the committee are of opinion that such an appliance should be at once obtained for use in London.

The inspecting engineer of the Crown Agents for the Colonies recently put to severe tests a sixcylinder Dennis turbine fire-engine which had been built to the order of the Selangor (Malay Peninsula) authorities. The machine was. shipped last week. Another recent delivery from the Dennis works is a 50 h.p. salvage van which is one of two that have been ordered by Mr. Muir, the Chief Officer of the Liverpool Salvage Association.
