Truck and van recall numbers almost doubled in the second half of 1999. Manufacturers called in 10,965 CVs from 1July to 30 November, compared with 6,316 for January to June.
Volvo had the biggest recall of the year-5162 F16s to check oil feed pipes had not cracked, creating a fire risk. Fiat recalled more than 2,000 Ducatos after some seat-belt pre-tensioners operated under heavy braking, while Iveco isolated six EuroTectis with faulty automatic engine brakes.
Oaf issued recalls for problems with track rod lever bolts on the 55 Series and potential steering lock faults on 2,334 45s and 55s.
Renault VI had recalls for front hub fractures on the Midliner, and front spring hanger cracks on the Premium. Seddon Atkinson identified possible steering problems on the MR Pacer 6x2 Hydrosteer.
