Osle of Wight haulier Vectis Transport has celebrated 75 years in business with an afternoon of cake n'fizzy at its Newport headquarters. The firm was founded one month after the end of World War One by Leigh Thomas—his son Vivian Leigh Thomas is pictured wielding the cake slice alongside fellow employees and directors.

The company diversified into coastal shipping with a subsidiary, Vectis Shipping Company, and in 1998 established Vectis Roadways to develop long haul throughout the UK. For the past 25 years the group has been owned by the Red Funnel Group based in Southampton and offers warehousing in Newport and Southampton. Long may it run—compared to the Hawk Vectis is still just a babe in arms.
