Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TALKS are to go ahead on the proposed

takeover by the Scottish Bus Group of the Glasgow Corporation Transport system (Com MERCIAL MOIOR May 13, 1966). The talks have been approved by Mrs. Barbara Castle following a corporation query if the proposal was in line with Government policy.

Only foreseeable opposition to the merger might come from the TGWU who have about 6,500 members in the city's transport undertaking. These employees enjoy a higher basic rate, a bonus scheme and better sick pay and

pension schemes than the bus group. An official of the group stated last week that the major obstacle would be TGWU demands.

The news gives the green light to Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee who are reported to have been awaiting the outcome of Glasgow's approach before deciding on whether or not to make similar proposals. However, both Edinburgh and Dundee are known to favour the establishment of Conurbation Transport Authorities in their respective areas rather than a "sell out" to the Scottish Bus Group.
