THE Traffic Commissioners sitting at Inver
ness last week approved the takeover by Highland Omnibuses Ltd. of the bus fleet operated by Mr. Norman Smith, Grantown, for skiers and others travelling to the tourist centre in the Caimgorms.
Mr. Norman Sutherland. general manager of Highland, a member of the Scottish Omnibus Group, told the Commissioners that since December, under a preliminary licence, it had undertaken the services run by Mr. Smith, and these had "proved most beneficial to the people in the area".
Chairman Mr. L. A. Wells welcomed the fact that Highland was prepared to operate a service between Aviemore railway station and Coylumbridge Hotel.
The hotel was operating an illegal minibus service and the Commissioners were concerned that this illegal operation should cease at the earliest possible moment, he declared. Highland's application for a stage carriage licence for this service was granted immediately.
