THE first of a range of Vulcan passenger chassis will form one of the exhibits of Vulcan Motors, Ltd., Victoria Works, Maidstone, at the Brussels Show, which opens to-morrow.. Based on the Vulcan goods chassis, this
new model is powered by a Perkins P6 oil engine which develops 70 b.h.p. at 2,200 r.p.m.
A single-.Plate clutch of 12-in. diameter takes the drive to a gearbox providing four forward speeds with ratios of 618, 3.4, 1.74 and 1 to 1, with an 8.12 reverse. Open propeller shafts, with Hardy Spicer needle-roller universal joints, convey the drive to ata overhead-worm-driven rear axle having
a ratio of 6.5 to I. Available as an extra is an Eaton two-speed axle with ratios of 5.83 and 8.11 to 1.
Front and rear brake drums are 16 ins, in diameter, the Girling twoleading-shoe brakes being hydraulically operated in conjunction with a Clayton Dewandre vacuum servo system. Double-action shock absorbers are used to control the semi-elliptic springs.
Frame side members are 81 ins, deep with a 21-in. top flange and 22-in. bottom flange. The chassis has a 1-ft. 4-in, dropped extension at the rear. The steel disc wheels are fitted with 8.25 by 20 10-ply heavy-duty tyres. The electric equipment is run
from a 12-volt system. t3
