DESPITE the fact that the number of vehicle-miles run by buses in Eire, 'last November, at 2,255,000, shows a decrease of 45,000 on the total for November, 1937, the number of passengers carried was 8,320,000, or
510,000 more than in 1936. Gross receipts, from passenger fares, rose, correspondingly, from £91,910 to £96.797. Cross-border services, on the other hand, showed an all-round decline for the month, the returns recording 105,000 vehicle-miles, 131,000 passengers and £3,690 receipts, as compared with 110,000 vehicle-miles, 137,000 passengers and £4,025 receipts in November, 1937.
The total number of passengers carried on internal services for the 11 months (January to November, 1938), amounted to 96,633,000, whilst gross receipts aggregated £1,227,259, as compared with 86,865,000 passengers and 21,131,881 receipts for the corresponding period in 1937. The number of vehicle-miles run on these services shows a similar improvement from 26,195,000 to 26,549,000.
During the first 11 months of 1938, cross-border buses ran 1,262,000 vehicle-miles, carrying 1,595,000 passengers, and earning £53,057 receipts. The returns for the corresponding period in 1937 were 1,343,000 vehiclemiles, 1,660,000 passengers and £56,550 receipts.
