• Members of the British Association of Removers are now entitled to use a breakdown and recovery service set up by BAR in partnership with AA-BRS Fleet Rescue.
A day-time call out will cost £9.50 on average plus £32 for an hour's roadside repair.
A dedicated phone number has been set up and rescues will be co-ordinated from the control centre using AA-BRS's 1,000 national agents, EuropeNet will handle continental breakdowns. • Parcels giant United Parcel Service has opened its own headquarters and depot network in Ireland after terminating a deal with freight forwarder Walsh Western.
The move, which is part of UPS's European expansion programme, saw the opening last week of a Dublin headquarters together with depots in Shannon and Cork.
About 65 staff and 20 vehicles will be based at these sites. UPS is offering next-day delivery from anywhere in Ireland to major European cities and New York. There is a two-to-threeday service to more than 180 countries. The company has used freight forwarders in Ireland since 1985, but the growth in the air express and freight markets has led the US-owned company to set up its own European network,
