Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE FORMULATION of a Planning Agreement between the bus chassis manufacturers and bodybuilders was discussed last week at a meeting organised by British Leyland.

This meeting, the latest in a series between the manufacturers, the DoE and the Confederation of British Road Passenger Transport, involved the bodybuilders for the first time.

All the bus bodybuilders and chassis manufacturers attended, but it is understood that some coachbuilders, although invited, did not go.

The meeting was one consequence of the Ryder report recommendation that attempts should be made to produce a more constant flow of bus production.

The manufacturers and operators blamed the Government for many of their troubles. Not only was there uncertainty on the future of the new bus grant—the DoE and the Confederation will discuss this later in February— but also on the amount of operating support given to bus services.

Leyland laid on a presentation of the supply/demand position based on figures produced by both Leyland and the Confederation assuming a projection of the present financial position.

Concrete proposals on a Planning Agreement are likely to be discussed at a meeting being called by the SMMT.
