Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Department of Industry is to survey pallet wastage in an effort to reduce the unit cast of handling goods.

The survey is to be carried out at the National Materials Handling Centre, which is acting as consultant to the Dot Primary concern is timber pallets, which cost around £15m in wastage each year.

The terms of the survey include the estimation of the number of pallets in use in Britain—excluding metal cage pallets; how many are fed into the nation's handling systems each year; the number lost each year and the estimation of the numbers that wear out each year.

Designs

Also to be examined are alternative designs and materials with their potential benefits and finding ways of saving money in the handling systems.

The survey will also examine the best methods of putting into action changes in the handling systems and making proposals to put the changes into action.
