Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Demand for used 18-tonners is rising, according to Matt Hammond, used vehicle sales manager at West Thurrock, Essex-based dealership Harris Oaf.

-Ideally customers want one with a sleeper cab, a tail-lift and a curtainsider body," he says. "They're looking for Euro-3 as well and a bit more power if they can get it. A 250hp model will fetch slightly more than one at 220hp."

He adds that 18-tonners with flatbed bodies are selling well too and there is even interest in examples with box bodies. "A few years back you'd rather be saddled with anything other than an 18-tonne box van and you'd always see a load of them stuck up the corner at auctions," he remarks. "That's not the case now."

So why the rising demand? Possibly because they are relatively expensive to acquire new, Hammond suggests-and possibly because new car licences no longer cover 7.5tonners, leading many operators to move to heavier trucks.
