As CM went to press the ehicle Inspectorate was wait
ing to hear if John Spellar would sign the legislation to allow impounding to start.
If it does get the go-ahead. Spellar will unveil the scheme at a roadside check in the West Midlands. However, if he fails to sign it this week impounding is likely to he delayed until the middle of January at the earliest.
Impounding was due to be introduced last summer but this was postponed following problems with the VI's new TAN 21 computer system.
