Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

E Trent Buses is running a trial of Carbon Clean equipment at one of its depots in an effort to reduce the number of smoking vehicles.

Carbon Clean is an American system for giving injection systems a decoke without dismantling. A cleaning fluid is pumped round the injection system via connections to the pump's inlet and the spill return.

Returning fluid is passed through a filter on the trolleymounted equipment while that leaking past the injectors will burn harmlessly when the engine is started. The process takes about 45 minutes and uses about 430 worth of fluid.

Trent is choosing which of the 60 vehicles based at its depot get the treatment by exception, says engineering director, Trevor Yeo. Those that are specially smoky are treated. The results are encouraging' he says.

Exhaust smoke from treated vehicles is visibly reduced, according to Yeo, but the extended test will show how long the effect lasts.
