• The Rover Group is pulling out of the Confederation of British Industry after 21 years of membership. Under the new chairmanship of Graham Day the state-owned cars and commercial vehicles group will concentrate its resources upon the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) which will put its views to the CBI. Rover has contributed about £30,000 a year to the CBI.
• Pirelli's UK tyre subsidiary, based in Burton-onTrent, has invested £12 million in new truck tyre production facilities due for completion in 1988. The company claims 8% of the original equipment market in the truck sector and 7% of the replacement market with progress achieved through last year's launch of its Zero Degree tyres.
• Minister of State for Transport, David Mitchell, has welcomed the Automobile Association's plans to set up a charitable Foundation for Road Safety Research.
