While you are quite correct in saying that "Cargo exports never reached the levels Ford had hoped for", it is quite wrong to conclude that this is "one of the main reasons for the Company's decision to back out of the European truck market".
The Iveco Ford merger applies only to the UK and Ford will continue to sell Iveco Ford-built Cargos through its European truck dealer
network. In fact, some 3,500 built up Cargos will be exported during 1986, together with cab panels for over 12,000 Brazilian-built Cargos and CKD kits for a further 2,500 Cargos to destinations such as Turkey and Australia.
