Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

hit Kane" (CM, November 29), I note that one of Kane's stolen vehicles was spotted heading north between 6.50arri and 7am on November 13 by someone who knew the vehicle, but was unaware at the time it was stolen.

Our Foden Haulmaster 30 tonne dropside tipper, registration number SPT 330V, was stolen from Willington, Co Durham on the night of November 21-22. The theft was reported to the local police at approximately 8am on Saturday, November 22. I phoned the local radio station at 9am that morning in an effort to get the details announced as early as possible. The radio staff were willing, provided they obtained confirmation from the police. This confirmation was not given for some reason.

I managed to get an article in the local newspaper on Monday, November 24, following which we learned that the vehicle was spotted a few miles from where it was stolen. The sighting was at Shildon, Co Durham at approximately 6am on the Saturday morning.

I am more convinced since reading the Kane article that early radio announcements would hamper movement of stolen vehicles.

The local radio station manager has assured me of support in my efforts to have the information on the air as quickly as possible re future thefts in this area.
