• Christian Salvesen has increased its profits by 11% in the six months to September 30, on turnover up from £133.7 million to £138.3 million.
• CSL Truck and Trailer Hire has been sold to the Leeds-based property developer, the York Mount Group, for £3 million.
• Next month the National Freight Consortium plans to complete its fourth acquisition in two months; the purchase of Associated Deliveries, the distrubition company jointly owned by United Biscuits, Barker and Dobsons, and CaHard and Bowser Nuttall.
• Atlas Express will be reduced to a 10-depot network with the closure of four more depots by the end of the year. United Parcels, the company which acquired Atlas for around £800,000 back in 1984 (CM November 10, 1984), has decided that from December 31 the branches at Edinburgh, Ipswich, Penvale (London) and Tavistock (Devon) will be wound up with the loss of around 250 jobs.
• Trailer and container rental group Tiphook has announced a near 50% rise in pre-tax profits from Elm to £1.5m for the six months to October 31, 1986 with earnings per share up by more than 31% over the same period.
