and must they keep A The drivers' hours rules apply, in general, to public service vehicles, motor vehicles constructed or adapted to carry more than 12 passengers (other than those designated psv) and goods vehicles. Drivers of vehicles under 30 cwt unladen or 31/2 tons laden do not need to keep records. However an ambulance is considered to be a vehicle constructed or adapted to carry goods or burden and no doubt does carry medical supplies from time to time. Therefore, an ambulance driver must observe the rules on drivers' hours and keep records if his vehicle is over 30 cwt unladen. There is no exemption to the Regulations for ambulance drivers.
