Transmission problems are not always a matter of trucks with dodgy gears or broken halfshafts. Our EEC correspondent's copy on the tachograph squabbles on the German frontier, published in CM last week, suffered from a dropped word as vital as a dropped cog. For "the army with tanks" dispersing 3,000 rebellious Dutch lorry drivers — which conjures up a picture of brutal soldiery using armour against bodies — please read "the army with tank transporters". Which they used to scoop up the trucks to try to clear a path for traffic. Very different kettle of fish. Got to keep the international understanding fresh and bright, especially just now.
