Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A REDUCTION in tyre noise will be needed if the target noise level of 80 dBA for a quiet heavy vehicle is to be achieved. This is one of the conclusions drawn by the Transport and Road Research Laboratory cornmenting on quiet heavy vehicle development in their annual report.

This report also classifies the other activities of TRRL under transport, highways, traffic and safety and overseas and is available from H.M. Stationery Office at £2,52, including postage.

Various topics of interest to the commercial vehicle industry include a collection of data on the effect of vehicle exhaust pollutants and traffic noise. Concerning the quiet heavy vehicle project the Laboratory suggests that a 2 to 3 dBA reduction in tyre noise will be needed if the vehicle as a whole is to meet its target level of 80 dBA at speeds around 100Km/ h (62mph).

Public transport is covered in a section which includes a summary of the results obtained with different types of bus priority schemes in Manchester and Southampton.
