ritish Rail's decision to close its direct London to Blackpool line has prompted Labour's transport spokesman John Prescott to accuse Transport Secretary John MacGregor of having a secret pact with Virgin boss Richard Branson.
Prescott claims the government will allow Branson to "cherry pick" from profitable route times using ex-BR rolling stock liveried in Virgin colours. But is Prescott missing the real hidden agenda? The London to Blackpool line closes at the end of September, just as Labour's conference arrives in the resort. Now there's a coincidence.
