• Chelsea Waste is appealing against a London public enquiry decision last month which revoked the company's 0-licence and banned it from holding one in any other traffic area for five years following 15 convictions for tax offences.

The inquiry heard objections from the Metropolitan Police and the Department of Transport to the renewal of Chelsea Waste's current 0-licence. An application for a new restricted licence was also refused.

The Metropolitan Police objected because the company had been using dishonoured cheques to pay for vehicle excise licences, says Sergent Clive Holliday.
