showing signs of making a recovery, despite a poor start to the year. More than 80,000 trucks used Dover in June — 6,800 more than last year; an improvement of 9.2%. The number of trucks using Dover during the first half of 1987 was 420,185, which is only marginally down on last year's total.
The total tonnage of cargo during the first half of 1987 is also up by 1.6% to 5,048,224 tonnes.
• Securicor reports a 23% increase in profits and an 11% rise in turnover in the six months to 31 March.
Profits from the company's UK parcels, security and communications operations increased from E3.94 million to £6.13 million, while vehicle sales, particularly from Welsh truck dealer R J Bown, have seen an "exceptional increase".
