Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YLAND is claiming a reducon of 22.5 per cent in wind3ighted drag coefficient (Cdskes allowance for yaw angle) th its Multipart roof fairing.

It is also claimed that the dejn of the Multipart fairing is perior to the conventional 3de type of roof deflectors lere the air is not prevented )m getting behind the blade.

If the optional air dam is used conjunction with the roof ring then Leyland says a rther two to three per cent rection in drag is possible.

The latest device in the yland aerodynamic range, the

seal, is claimed to give rther improvement of between ( and 10 per cent depending on the exact configuration. Leyland says that the gap seal les the biggest reduction with lat blade deflector as the latter 5 in more need of improveant."

Because it is difficult to equate .eduction in drag with an equilent reduction in fuel conmotion, Leyland has carried

out a series of test runs on the M55 at various speeds with the results being shown in the table. on the right.

These results are for a Roadtrain grossing 32.5 tonnes and fitted with a "full kit" of aerodynamic aids roof deflector, under bumper air dam, gap seal, trailer fairings and side skirts.

Leyland could offer the skirts on the tractive unit as a produc tion item in the future depending upon operator interest.
