D. W. Maund. 31, formerly commercial manager of the BRSL Overnight Express Co at Bromford Mills, has joined Ralph Hilton Transport in a senior executive capacity. He is currently engaged on establishing the new HTS container base on a sevenmain London-Tilbury road Thomas A. Lyon, vice president, United Kingdom manufacturing, Cummins Engine Co Inc, USA, is to replace G. T. Rehfeldt, chairman. on the board of Cummins Engine Co Ltd following Mr Rehfeldt's retirement. J. C. Macfarlane, plant manager at Shatts since May 1968, has joined the UK board.
J. W. Finnis has been elected a life member of the Road Haulage Association. Until his recent retirement he was chairman of the RHA international group, a position which he had held for five years. He had been employed by Pickfords since 1933, latterly as a manager with special duties; his specialist knowledge of international affairs was indicated to CM readers by the article on ADR, CM R and TIR which he wrote for the August 6 issue.
J. V. Muschamp has been appointed managing director of Coachwork Conversions Ltd. replacing P. 0. Ives who has now left the company.
C. Evans, who is at present Senior Assistant Engineer, has been appointed Assistant Manager (Works) with Edinburgh City Transport and will be directly responsible to the Transport Manager for all aspects of Workshop Management and Practice and the Maintenance of Vehicles of the Transport Department, Fire Service, Education Department and other Corporation Departments.
Hugh Jenkins has been appointed Southern area traffic manager of NCL. He becomes responsible for all operating matters in SouthEastern and Southern England. in 1968 he was appointed manager of the company's Paddington depot, the job he now leaves.
Eric Herding has been appointed sales director, Oliver Rix (Commercial Vehicles) Ltd, based at Orrell Park Works, Orrell Lane, Bootle, Liverpool 20. Mr Harding joined the Oliver Rix group in 1969 as commercial sales manager from Sri 'sh Leyland's truck and bus division.
Hugh Thompson, previously sales manager, has been appointed managing director of Russell Motors, haulage contractors, Bathgate. West Lothian, in succession to John Russell, who has retired.
Obituary
We record with regret. the deaths of James Armstrong and Frederick George Wilder. Mr Armstrong, who died in hospital at Dumfries at the age of 83, succeeded his father in developing a haulage business with a horse and cart.
Mr Wilder (613) was chairman of F. G. Wilder and Son Ltd, Feltham. Middlesex, and had been in commercial transport for 50 years, having commenced on steam wagons at the age of 18. His firm operates "Golden Miller" buses and coaches.
