THE dimensions of public-service passenger vehicles are, of course, strictly controlled, 'but many operators and others feel that there could be some relaxation in this respect, which would increase their comfort and convenience without introducing any dangerous factor.

Pre-war approaches failed to secure any approval from the M.O.T. More recently, the A,R.0,, M.P.T.A. and P.T.A. have reopened the matter and prepared a' memorandum setting out those revisions which are considered to be desirable. This was submitted to the S.M.M.T. for its support, and in order to obtain a joint approach to the Ministry: Recently a meeting was held between representatives of the operators' organizations and of the Commercial Vehicle Commit

tee and Bodybuilders' Section of the S.M.M.T., at which agreed proposals were formulated. The proposed tievisions concern overall length, width, height and weight, but even if the approval of the Ministry be obtained for these, consequential amendments of other regulations will be necessary.. A technical sub-committee has been set up to finalize the representations. Those appointed to serve are:—For the operating interests, Messrs. A. F. Bentall (London Transport), A. Twidle (BET-. Federation), W. C. Whalley (Manchester Corporation Transport), and Major ,F. J. Chapple (Bristol Tramways); for the manufacturing interests, Messrs. J. A. Dorr .(Dunlop), A. T. Frog4att, (M.C.W.). V. W. Pilkington (Leyland Motors), and C. M. Simpson (Daimler, Ltd.).
