Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

type 0D/AC6/1 tractor chassis, a new model is announced by John I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd„ Thornycroft House, Smith Square, London, S.W.1. For service in this country, it is designed for use as the tractive unit

of an articulated vehicle carrying a pay-load of 13 tons, whilst for overseas it may be employed purely as a tractor for hauling trailers up to a gross weight of 22 tons, or with a 9-ton semi-trailer, The new machine is a development

of the well-known Trusty maximumload 'four-wheeler, and, . in general, follows the layout of this model. As will be noted from the accompanying picture, it has a well-set-back front axle, which gives good manoeuvrability (the turning circle is only 38 ft.), and ensures that there is plenty of weight on the front wheels for steering adhesion. In addition, it greatly facilitates access to the engine..

A heavy-duty rear axle is standardized, whilst the back, springs have also been considerably stiffened up for the extra work they will be called upon to do. They are 4 ins, wide, with 5-ft. centres. The wheels are shod with 36 by 8 tyres, twins at the rear.

In standard form, the chassis is powered by the maker's six-cyfinderecl 7.759-litre petrol -engine, which develops 106 b.h.o. Alternatively, however, the Thornycroft six-cylindered oil

engine may be installed. Two 20gallon fuel tanks are carried.
