Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

For 51 weeks a year we test CVs ranging from microvans to 44-tonners. But sleeper cabs are bedrooms as well as workplaces so once a year we shake out the CM sleeping bag for our annual group cab test..

The brief to the manufacturers for this year's cab test was to send us their 'second-best' sleeper-cab tractors —eg, one step down from the top of the range. What we got on the day was a veritable Motor Show: never before have we had so many new models on parade for this test.

And they don't get newer than Daf's XF105; in fact, our cab test contender is the first one in the country —it's destined for DesThame training school. It arrived at the MIRA proving grounds so quickly that it beat a couple of minor bits of trim, in case you spot them in the pictures.

Almost as fresh were the latest generation Renault Premium and the medium-height, full-width XLX version of the MAN TGA. In this fast-moving company, the Volvo FH and MercedesBenz Actros looked positively familiar.

A minor communications glitch meant that while the ideal Stralis for this test would have been the Active Space, we had the choice of ActiveTime or Executive Space. As the AS and ES have the same dimensions, differing only in trim, the ES was the obvious choice.
