DRIVERS are now entitled to £12.70 overnight tax-free subsistence payments, the Inland Revenue has told the Road Haulage Association.
It has ruled that tax should not be deducted if the employer is satisfied that the driver has spent the night away from home and his normal place of work; that he has incurred extra expense; and that the amount paid is no more than a reasonable reimbursement of the extra costs incurred by the driver.
