A LEADING Scottish haulier has won a National Coal Board contract to deliver house coal using road/rail containers.
Coatbridge-based John G. Russell has added 150 lowheight ISO-standard containers to its stock of over 1,000 containers, and is using them to transport coal on British Rail's Speedlink service from English mines to its Gartcosh railhead terminal near Glasgow.
The coal is distributed by road to coal merchants throughout the Scottish central belt.
Gartcosh has capacity for around 20 containers a day, and additional future loads may be accommodated at Russell's Deanside Transit railhead in Glasgow.
