A THREE-WEEK transport survey with a different purpose has been successfully conducted in Leeds by the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive. It was largely the work of Huddersfield Polytechnic students, who undertook a pioneer scheme for Metro in Huddersfield last year. The researchers included geography students for whom an intimate knowledge of Leeds bus routes must be invaluable.
A "rub-off" questionnaire was used in both inquiries and yielded a 90 per cent response at Leeds. The aim was to gain detailed information about passenger journeys, particularly their time and purpose, the kind of ticket used, ages of passengers and so on. This, it is hoped, will enable services and ticket schemes to be improved.
