A ROAD haulage firm involved in the transport of highly flammable fuels has been fined £150 for contravening safety regulations.
Police found that a vehicle owned by Hurst Fuels of Kilmarnock, loaded with paraffin, failed to comply with the code of practice governing the carriage of hazardous substances.
At Paisley Sheriff Court, the firm admitted failing to take all precautions necessary to prevent a fire or explosion by not having on-board fire extinguishers protected from exposure to weather. They also admitted failing to provide blocking-off caps for each outlet and failing to properly display hazard warning panels carrying information about the load.
Sheriff A. K. F. Hunter fined the company £50 on the first charge, £100 on the second, and admonished it on the other complaint.
