DEMONSTRATIONS were given in London recently of a diesel-engine immobilizer developed by G. H. Wood and Co., Ltd., Glebe Road, London, E.8, and known as the E.D.T. There are two main components; one is a solenoidoperated shut-off valve, the other a Control lock which is in effect a switch unit operated by a special key.
The valve unit is designed to fit in the fuel entry point on the injection pump, the fuel delivery pipe being connected to the outer end. Four wires connect the valve to the switch unit which is in turn connected to the vehicle's electrical system. As the shut-off valve is closed until its solenoid is operated, no fuel can _pass into the injection pump until the control lock is operated. This is done by a key of a special design, exclusive to G. H. Wood and unobtainable from any other source. Two types of control lock can be supplied, one gives automatic ejection
Flexible Greasing Extension
A HIGH-PRESSURE nylon hose and rA hydraulic nozzle assembly for use with their Pressur-Matic control valve has been introduced by Tecalemit (Engineering), Ltd., Plymouth. This flexible extension has been designed to service awkwardly placed lubricating nipples and in use is attached to the existing rigid extension.
Overall length of the assembly is 12 in. and the price is 17s. net
Anodising Aluminium
ANEW edition of Information Bulletin 14, " Anodic Oxidation of Aluminium and its Alloys," has been published by the Aluminium Development Association, 33 Grosvenor Street, London, W.1. The book gives information on anodising processes, test procedures and properties of anodic films. It has 188 pages with 54 illustrations and costs 8s. 6d.
of the key after it has been used (this ensures that the key cannot be left in the lock if the vehicle is unattended) the other allows the key to be left in the switch.
The four wires between the control lock and the valve are not marked in any way to show the function they perform. This means that if an unauthorized person attempts to by-pass the lock to operate the valve it is unlikely he will connect the correct lead first time. If the wrong one is energized a fuse in the valve unit will blow to make it completely inoperative. The demonstrations showed that the E.D.T. system was effective and free from such troubles as air locks even though
Canadian Brushes Here
FIVE types of vehicle-washing brush made by Brushcraft, Ltd., Canada, are to be imported into the U.K. by Vehiclean, Ltd., 30 Craven Street, London, W.C.2. All five models use Canadian horsehair for the tufts. On models 55 and 77 these are 21 in. long, whilst on models 50, 95 and 120 they are 2 in. king. Model 55 is the dearest, having a rubber head and aluminium feeder tube. Model 77 is a little cheaper. It is of the same design, but has a plastics head.
The other three models are cheaper still. There arc small variations in design, but all have plastics feeder tubes as well as plastics heads.
Also for Petrol Engines
ALTHOUGH intended originally as a fuel additive for diesel engines. Autol-Desolite is now .said to be also of benefit when used with petrol engines. This product of United Lubricants, Ltd., United House, London, W.11, was introduced to the U.K. just over a year ago after being marketed on the Continent
for some time.. ,
Main claims for Autol-Desolite are that it removes combustion residues from piston-ring grooves and piston crowns, combustion chambers and exhaust passages. Its important function with diesel mis-used. Complete with two keys the equipment costs £16 16s. with normal key operation or £17 17s. when the keys are self-ejecting. These prices are exclusive of fitting. Also recently, introduced by the same concern is a cylinder-operated clawbolt deadlock—the CL.3.. This has -been specifically designed for vehicle sliding doors but has other applications including roller shutters.
The lock is adaptable for any thickness of door and has a special five-pin-anddriver cylinder lock with an exclusive key section available only from the makers. With two keys this lock costs £2 19s. 6d.
Trade prices have not yet been fixed but it is said that these will probably range from about 8s. for model 120 to £1 5s. for model 55.
engines is, of course, that it prevents the possible sticking and seizure of components in the injection equipment. When used with an engine where carbon and other deposits have already formed Autol-Desolite is said to clear these quickly.
It is recommended that with used engines Autol-Desolite should be added to petrol at the rate of 1 pint to 3 gal. (4 per cent.) initially and after about 10 hours' running at this concentration at the rate of 1 pint to 12.5 gal. (0.5 per cent.) Double these concentrations are recommended for diesel engines.
