Mrs. C. G. GREEN has succeeded MR. J. G. WIDDOWSON as a director of G. Beaton and Son, Ltd. MR. V. M. HELD has been appointed deputy spares superintendent of A.C.V. Sales, Ltd.. He joined A.E.C., Ltd., in 1927.
MR. HARRY BURY, manager of the Scottish Division of the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. (Great Britain),. Ltd., has completed 30 years' service with the company. MR. E. A. PAGET, at present assistant traffic manager of the Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., will become traffic manager of the Rhondda Transport Co., Ltd., on June 1. BRIG. V. K. HARGREAVES, managing director, Hargreaves (Leeds), Ltd., has been appointed ;Deputy Lieutenant of the West Riding and of the City and County of York. MR. H. D. SpAastiArr has been re-elected chairman of the Portsmouth and District Area of the Traders' Road Transport Association, and MR. C. BOWER vice-chairman. MR. A. MCCLEERY has been appointed traffic manager of the Ulster. Transport Authority. He has been acting as traffic manager since the death of MR. S. KNorr last year. MR. C. E. JORDAN has, for the 12th year in succeson, been appointed chairman of the West Midland Division of the Traders' Road Transport Association. The vice-chairmen are MR. E. A. BETTELEY, MR. J. DELICATE and MR. W. A. STANDLEY.
MR. L. R. ROBSON has been appointed chairman of the Southern Area of the Road Haulage Association, and MR. J. RAWLINGS vice-chairman. MR. F. T. CHEEK has been elected chairman of the Isle of Wight Sub-area and MR. J. WARDER vice-chairman.
MR. G. W. HAYTER, former general manager and chief engineer of the Northern General Transport Co., Ltd.. is now well established as a consultant on passenger transport. He spends about 90 days a year in Sweden, advising on bus operation. He returned there on Wednesday to study transport conditions in the far north. MR. R. ADAmsoN and MR. W. D. HARLEY-MASON have been appointed to the board of the-Gabriel Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Torquay, a subsidiary of Tecalemit, Ltd., Plymouth. Mr. Adamson is secretary and chief accountant of the Tecalemit and Gabriel companies, and Mr. Harley-Mason is manager of the Torquay company. MR. H. MOUNTFORD has succeeded MR. A. H. BROWN as service manager of the India Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd. Mr. Brown has been transferred to mileage sales. MR. W. J. D. MILLS, formerly advertising representative in, the west region, is now sales representative covering Bristol and, parts of Gloucestershire and Somerset.

Ross SEYMOUR, chairman of the Brady group of companies, is to make a business tour of Canada and the U.S.A. MR. J. W. J. WEBB has joined the board of Aldershot and District Traction Co., Ltd., MR. A. G. EVERSHED has resigned. MR. ERIC BELL, cleansing superintendent of Walthamstow, has been nominated' as president of the Institute of Public Cleansing for 1957-58. MR. C. E. DIXON is now chairman of the Industrial Transport Association. The vice-chairmen are MR. C. N. GRADDON and MR. R. H. KITSON. MR. P. THORP is honorary secretary. MR. W. W. BALDING has been appointed chief research engineer of the Nuffield Organization. M. C. A. GRIFFIN is now chief experimental engineer and MR. J. E. WHITEHEAD his assistant. MR. F. J. F.AGARD has resigned his position as senior executive and sales manager of Telehoist, Ltd., to join the executive staff of Alford .and Alder (Engineers), Ltd., as production manager. MR. A. A. NEWBURY, formerly sales manager, Specialloid, Ltd., has been appointed western sales manager of Lansair, Ltd., Montreal, distributors of British engineering products throughout Canada. He will be based in Vancouver. MR. LESLIE FARROW, chairman of C. C. Wakefield and Co., Ltd., has resigned his directorship of Trinidad Leaseholds, Ltd., who run the Regent chain. of petrol stations. It is understood that his resignation was brought about as a direct result of the campaign which has been launched by certain independent oil concerns, of which Wakefields are the largest. against the tied-garage policy of the big combines.
OBITUARY •
WE regret to record the deaths of MR. JOHN COOPER, MR. A. E. ArYfo and MR. C. R. POSTLETHWAITE. Mr. Cooper was a pioneer of the tyre industry. He became general sales manager of the India Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd., in 1928. Later he fOlinded the Clevedon hotel group, of which he was head at the time of his death. Mr. Atyeo, who was 76, pioneered bus services in Weston-super-Mare 50 years ago, and founded the Pride of the West coach fleet.
Mr. Postlethwaite was service superintendent of the Plymouth depot of Leyland Motors, Ltd. He joined the company in 1,919.
