A job club to encourage unemployed people to apply for positions in the logistics industry has had more than 200 people participate in its development programme.

The initiative, a joint venture between Skills for Logistics (SfL), the Logistics Guild and an organisation called Beyond 2030, aims to get people back into work and give them the confidence to apply for jobs in logistics.

"While on the programme, people do a Level 1 Certificate in Employability and Personal Development, which is run through Hinckley and North Warwickshire College," said SfL chief executive Mick Jackson.

Launched in Rugby in March, 209 people have been through the inaugural Job Club and been given access to pre-employment training. DHL, Asda and Greggs provided mentoring and work experience placements, and seven people have since gained employment. One participant, Linzi Tarrant, has secured a job as a Class 2 driver for DHL. She said: "When I first started the programme I knew I had the skill — I had just lost all my confidence. The Job Club has changed the way I think about employment and I'm now

really excited about my new job."

SfL is keen to see the Job Club rolled out across a number of areas and said future clubs could target ex-military, women returning to work and young offenders.
