MIDLANDS SCANIA dealer Keltruck has restored a Scania T-cab to its former glory after it came in as a part-exchange in 2011.

Initially registered in 1999, the T124, 12-litre 400hp truck, first bought by Maidenhead-based Civil & Marine, will be used to pull Keltruck's exhibition trailer. It has already taken the trailer to Truckfest Southwest at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern.

Keltruck sales director David Morgan says: "[It's] an iconic vehicle. As time goes on, the value of these trucks has soared and they are becoming very collectible." The vehicle needed extensive body and engine work and the project was co-ordinated by the bodyshop team at the West Bromwich site. "The chassis was in bad condition, with most parts damaged," says Morgan. "It was stripped down to the rails, shot-blasted and rebuilt, replacing all damaged parts and painted gloss black by Keltruck's Dalby

cook and bake paint shop."

Extras included new alloy wheels and tyres, day-time running headlamps, double rear lights and light bars. The truck was completed with tinted windows, reupholstered leather seats and bunks, recovered interior panels in black, colourcoded mirrors, chrome light bar and black stove enamelled steps.

Morgan says the project was a team effort: "Keltruck's bodyshop department stripped it to the bare chassis, engine, gearbox, cab. With everything removed, a ground-up rebuild was carried out. The chassis paint is as glossy as the cab paint. The interior has been refurbished and our suppliers have rallied around to supply items." He adds: "The finished product is testament to what the team can achieve. All who took part had pride in making it what it is today. We also have a 1989 T143 and a 2005 T124. Thanks must also go to Chris Hopton at Tyre Tracks and Matt and Luke at S&B Components, and the team at Spot On Bars." •
