An idiot-proof truck with Loads of Life Left

LAURIE DEALER has chosen a 2011 4x2 Mercedes-Benz Axor. It's the secondgeneration, face-lifted version of the Euro-5 tractor unit, powered by Mercedes' 12-litre 0M457 six-cylinder engine producing 400hp and 2,000Nm torque. It is specified with a Powershift 12-speed automated gearshift and it has a high roof sleeper cab with a single bunk.

The truck is finished in standard issue white paint with colour-coded bumpers and has done a paltry 218,000km. It is equipped with air suspension, air suspension seat, air conditioning and an air-operated fifth wheel, and it still has the manufacturer's warranty.

For a decade, Axor has won Mercedes-Benz friends in areas it had previously not dared to tread: supermarkets, own-accounts, hauliers and rental companies. It is simple, robust and one of the more idiot-proof trucks an operator can buy. At just over two years old, this Axor has a long service life ahead of it, and with a reputation for reliability (and a full service history), at £34,000, there's plenty of value and years to come.
