Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Britain's truck manufacturers have suffered another disastrous month. Despite the traditional August surge registrations continued to plummet, falling 29% from August 1990, according to the latest SMMT figures.

For the year to date CV registrations were 151,107 — down 30% on January-August 1990. Leyland Daf does not expect UK truck registrations to pick up before the end of the year, but it believes the slump has bottomed out.

Mercedes-Benz says: "The buying pattern has fallen on real demand, rather than the normal artificial demand when operators have waited until August to get new registrations."
