• The first operator to take Northern Counties' single-deck Countybus will be Greater Manchester Buses.
It has ordered the aluminium body on the 5.5m wheelbase Volvo B1OM chassis, with a capacity for 51 seated and 20 standing passengers.
The Urn unit will join GMB's fleet of 1,700 passenger vehicles after next month's Coach & Bus '91 exhibition.
GMB chief engineer Bill Bland says it chose the Countybus to evaluate high-capacity singledeckers on stage carriage work. Most of GMB's buses are double-deckers: the highest capacity bus of its 140 single-deckers takes 68 passengers.
GMB is about to take delivery of the last of a 25-vehicle order from the Wigan-based bodybuilder comprising 10 Dennis Dominators, five Scania N113DRBs and 10 Volvo BlOMs. It placed the order before NC was taken over by administrator Grant Thornton last May.
