tUIPMENT specifically signed to cut down on wasted 011 in warehouse picking has en introduced by Dexion Ltd, a storage and handling ecialists.
Known as Selecta-Flo,the uipment is a gravity-fed live )rage racking for hand-held items, incorporating a number of design features.
The cartoned stock passes • over wheels down an incline that runs from the loading face to the picking face, each individual product line with its own separate lane. The goods are presented at the front of the rack within a compact area.
With such a reduction in movement, picking costs can be cut by up to 75 per cent, claims Dexion.
With the Selecta-Flo system only two aisles are required — one for loading and one for picking — and with the two operations neatly separated, bottlenecks are avoided and staff do not get in each other's way.
Another benefit is the automatic first-in, first-out rotation — a valuable feature where perishables are being kept.
Selecta-Flo is available in two versions, according to whether or not it is used in conjunction with palletised back-up stock. Where straightforward, general order-picking is required, the system is based on a Dexion Spandex framework, and where it is to be used with pallet racking, the framework is of Dexion Speedlock.
According to Dexion,a number of features have been included in the new equipment which makes it easily adaptable to changing carton sizes. By rotating a shelf clip, the gradient of the run from loading to picking face can be adjusted to within 13mm, according to the weight of the items stored.
Tracks width,too, can be adjusted, and there are marked calibrations to make these operations fast and accurate, A choice affront access is also affe red.
In addition to the normal straight version, the front of the frame is also available in a layback position to ease split-case picking.
