THE first of a new series of road tankers meeting draft Home Office regulations on the transport of corrosive chemicals has been delivered to haulier Buckley Tankers Ltd of Warrington. The tanker, which is frameless, has been built by' Universal Bulk Handling EquipmentLtd. Suspension is rubber and has been supplied by Rydewell Engineering.

Visually the most significant safety feature is a roll-over valance which encloses the inspection and fill hatches and also the various safety and change-over valves.

Other protection devices include a substantial guard around the discharge valve on the nearside and an extended heavy-duty underrun bumper. The space 'between the bumper and the tank barrel is panelled and forms a locker for tools and other equipment The tank is to be used by Buckley's for carrying hydrochloric acid and has been designed in conjunction with ICI, to whom the vehicle is contracted.

The single compartment double-conical tank has been fabricated in 6mm (iin) mild steel lined with 4.75mm (3/16in) thick rubber. All load handling pipework is rubber lined, while all the air piping for the tank is of polypropylene.
