AP.S.V, operators' mutual assistance committee, which has been established in the North-eastern Region, held its first meeting, last week, in Leeds. The committee's prirn, ary function is to advise Major F. S. Eastwood, the Regional Transport Commissioner, on emergency passenger-transport measures which may be necessary in the event of air raids in the region, although it will also deal with other aspects of war-ti;ne passenger transport.

Hitherto, the Region's arrangements for the supply of relief buses and coaches to assist in the operation of services after raids have met the situation without involving muck if any, dislocation through the, transfer of vehicles to raided areas. The groups of smaller operators formed for the ' provision of relief vehicles have pro yided a most valuable stand-by. In view of the possibility of heavier raids, during the forthcoming winter, however, it is felt advisable to make pre parations for meeting much bigger relief calls involving the transfer to raided areas of large numbers of vehicles operated by bigger undertakings. A function of the mutual assistance .committee is to advise as to how the relief vehicles may be provided in adequate numbers, but with a minimum of dislocation to ordinary passengertransport 'services.

The committee comprises the general 'managers of four large bus companies and four municipal undertakings, with officials of A.R.O. and the C.M.11.A. as representatives of independent operators, -and a trade union representative.

The members are: Mr. D. E. Bell .(Yorkehire Woollen District Transport Co.. Ltd.). Mr.-. 0. F. Craven (Halifax Corporation). Mr. J. C. Dean (West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd.I, Mr. N. IL' Dean (Yorkshire Traction. Co.. Ltd.), Mr. G. H. Hargrave (West Riding Automobile Co.,

Ltd.), Mr. W n) . Vane Morland (Leeds Corporation}, Mr. C. It. Totte {Bradford Corporation), Mr. Pf. Watson (Sheffield Corporation), Mr. W.' Lowe (secretary, _Yorkshire Area, A-ILO-). Mr. 0. F. Brook (secretary, Nori,h-eastern Division, C.M.U.A.), and Mr. A. 3. Heel (area snoretiry. Transport and General Workers' .Union).
