• More than 30 drivers working for Exel Logistics on a contract with supermarket chain Somerfield have been made redundant following the closure of Exel's Smoke Lane depot in Avontnouth.

In all 45 drivers were among the 132 redundancies but 15 of them have transferred to other divisions. The NFC-owned company is shutting the depot following the loss of the Somerfield contract to Walsall-based specialist frozen food carrier MK& Exel says that every effort will be made to find alternative employment for redundant staff, either within the company or elsewhere in NFC.
