• International haulage reference tariffs in the EC are due to be formally abolished by Common Market transport ministers at their meeting in Luxembourg on 16 October.

The last remaining compulsory tariffs between Germany, France, Italy and the Benelux block were scrapped at the end of last year.

Compulsory tariffs still exist in some national markets for long-distance haulage, notably in Germany and Italy, but the EC says freeing the domestic markets will be its next lEriority.
