Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• London Transport is converting 71 of its one-man-operated DMS doubledeckers to crew operation from December 15. They will operate routes 16 and 134. The buses will eventually revert to one-man operation when purpose-built two-man double-deckers are delivered The DMS vehicles will have their ticketissuing equipment blanked off while they are crew operated. They will replace Routemasters which in turn are being used to replace RTs on other routes. DMS buses cannot always be swopped direct for RTs because of the difficulty of finding garages with suitable maintenance facilities (like pits) for rear-engine buses.

Next year LT is expecting to take delivery of 460 purpose-built DM vehicles for twoman operation. These will seat 71 three more than DMS buses.
