Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WTE have dealt fairly fully in our 'If leading article with an interesting scheme formulated by the Nuffield Organization in a powerful effort not only to save the lives of British children but to develop their self control, so that they will, eventually, become careful users of the road, either as drivers or walkers.

Sir Miles Thomas, vice-chairman of the Organization, outlined the proposals at a meeting held at Claridge's Hotel, London, on October 3 lie pointed out that, while those present had been sitting at lunch, the accident average meant that three children had been involved in road accidents, and by that time next day four would have been killed on the roads. He was not prepared to say how far they could hope to train adults to greater self-discipline in respect of

traffic, It was certainly out of the question for the aged, although they, with the young children, form a distressingly high percentage of victims. It was, however, possible to train children, particularly between the ages of 3 and 15 years. They can be coached so effectively that their thoughts or actions can be made to become so habitual as to be carried oat almost automatically.

To carry out this work, the Nuffield Organization has issued sufficient copies of a teacher's guide to cover every school in the country. In the Preparation of this, the assistance of Lieut.-Col. Pickard, of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Aceidents, was obtained, and the result was vetted and fully approved by the Ministries of Education and War. Transport.

Next is a beautifully coloured picturebook entitled " Look Before You Leap," which should prove most attractive to the very young. If is available 'for teachers and .parents who care to write for copies to the Nuffield Organization, Cowley, Otford.

Sir Thomas also referred to a new road-safety indoor game called" Watch Your Step ! " This is being prepared by a -well-known games manufacturer, and will be issued through shops and Other channels as the materials become available.
