Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Truck sales are still growing, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Last month CV sales over 3.5 tonnes GVVV were 6.6% up on October 1997—and sales for the year to date are up by 17.2%.

Sales of lighter vans and 4x4s grew slightly but sales of light CVs (from 1.8-3.5 tonnes) fell by almost 11%. For the year to date the light CV market is up by around 5.8% over 1997.

The main winner so far this year has been the Paccar group, with Leyland Daf Trucks sales up by 22.1% and Foden sales up by a massive 40.7%. Clearly, the new CF range and the Foden Alpha have been successful.

Other manufacturers have also done well: Volvo's sales are up by 25.8% for the year to date, while Renault VI has increased sales by almost 31% and MAN's figures are up by 20.6%. Iveco Ford's sales have grown by 10%, but its market lead has been snatched by Leyland Daf.

The main success story in the light CV sector has also launched a new product this year: Renault's panel-van sales have increased by almost 50% since the Master was introduced.
