• David Higginbottom, general secretary of the United Road Transport Union, plans to launch a series of campaigns next year to improve the truck drivers' lot.
fligginbottom, who ousted Frank Griffin earlier this year, says working hours, medicals at the age of 45, truckstops and subsistence rates will be at the top of the agenda. But first he plans detailed research to back up anecdotal evidence.
